The Los Angeles Lakers have a disappointing season last year as they missed the playoffs after finishing with a mediocre 33-49 record. LeBron James and Anthony Davis are the best players on this roster but last year they missed a bunch of the season due to injury. This is why Jeanie Buss called Russell Westbrook the best player in the Lakers.

The Lakers brought Russell Westbrook last season because they thought he was going to be the missing piece they needed to reach the playoffs. Needless to say that he wasn't their solution. Westbrook finished the season with one of his worst stats since he joined the league. despite this Jeanie Buss believed that his availability was important last season for the team.

One last Russell Westbrook trade option for the Lakers

The Lakers owner called Russell Westbrook their best player during an interview for The Athletic. Then she decided to change her words by saying that he was the most consistent player on the team. Former player Jalen Rose came to his defense asking her not to change her opinion.

“But the real acknowledgment was that it's hard to win when Anthony Davis isn't on the court. That's something that, if it doesn't change this year, it doesn't matter how many games Russ or LeBron play. And so, we know they wanna trade Russ. He knows they wanna play. He's under contract to move or the deal has not happened,” explained Rose.

Lakers plan for next season

The Lakers need their best players to be available for most of the season. They need LeBron James and Anthony Davis to play for at least 60 games each. They cannot hope another player can lead them all the way to the playoffs.
