The Lakers are an NBA franchise known to spend the big bucks to get the best players possible for their team and build a roster that always competes to win the league's title. However, the Lakers fans have noticed that nothing significant has happened this season. At the beginning of the offseason, Los Angeles GM Rob Pelinka promised that big names would strengthen the team's roster.
With training camp around the corner, the "biggest" name has been Patrick Beverley, and that addition caused more confusion as Russell Westbrook continues to be on the team, and both players are nemesis. All summer, different rumors had the Lakers pursuing players like the Nets Kyrie Irving and, more recently, the Utah Jazz Donovan Mitchell.
But those ships have sailed, as Kyrie Irving will continue to play with the Brooklyn Nets for another season. Donovan Mitchell has recently signed with LeBron James' former "home," the Cleveland Cavaliers.
With the time almost up, and most of the more prominent names already have a team to play with the following season, Rob Pelink needs to make a blockbuster trade that not only can calm the fans but that can be true to the promise he made to LeBron of building a competitive team in pursuit of the Championship title.
Rob Pelinka's last opportunity seems to be a trade with the Indian Pacers of Westbrook for Buddy Hield and Myles Turner, as the Indiana Pacers are interested in getting Russ. This is the trade Lakers fans have been hoping for and believe still is possible. But Pelinka and the rest of the Lakers Front Office have the last saying.
