The Lakers have been under direct examination for the last year, not only because they are the most polarizing and influential team in the NBA,but because all their secrets are being spilled out either in the HBO series 'Winning Time' or the Hulu series ‘Legacy’. Both series have tried to show all of the teams' history without hiding anything.
Now, Jeanie Buss is making sure that there are not more secrets inside the organization. So she decided to explain why she decided to fire her brother back in 2017. “Everyone knows the wins and losses. Everyone knows the trades and free agent signings. I think people were interested in understanding the conflict I had with my brother. There is nothing to be hidden or kept secret.”
Anthony Davis could be part of the Lakers' next trade
From being the 'Chosen One' to having the 'Chosen Sons', the legacy continues
The Lakers had been in one of their worst streaks in 2017. They haven't reached the playoffs since the 2012-13 season. But they hadn't been competitive since the 2010 championship run. "That's what really caused the conflict between my brother and I," commented Buss for USA Today Sports.
"The way he was operating the team, we were making a nice home at the bottom of the standings year after year. That wasn't the brand that Dr. (Jerry) Buss created. No one has the formula to win a championship, but you always be relevant and be part of the conversation and give yourself a chance to win," concluded Jeanie Buss.
Despite firing his brother, the results didn't change that much. The Lakers missed the playoffs in the following two years. True, they won a championship not long after Jim Buss was fired, but they have been trending down since the 2020 season.
