The Lakers owner Jeanie Buss and GM Rob Pelinka didn't hesitate to offer Anthony Davis a 186 million for three years extension deal, after all, they are planning ahead of LeBron James' retirement and want to build a team around AD when the time comes.

Anthony Davis has now the richest extension deal in the NBA, but there's one detail that has recently emerged that could benefit the player even more in the future.

With information via NBA insider Michael Scotto "Lakers star Anthony Davis has a player option on the final year of his three-year, $186 million extension with Los Angeles, league sources told."

The player option will allow to Davis opt-out and secure what will most likely be his final lucrative NBA deal. The salary cap is going to increase incrementally over the next few years once the league’s new TV deal kicks in, meaning that the star big man will be in line for an even larger pay raise.

The Lakers are planning for next season and the future

It seems that this time around the Lakers are looking to avoid the mistake done after the 2020 championship title changed the team drastically, as only Anthony Davis and LeBron James remain from that roster. This time around they are building a deep and contending team to win next season's title and beyond.
