With the offseason the Lakers had thanks to the moves made by GM Rob Pelinka and coach Darvin Ham, the team is looking stronger than last year's roster.

The team was able to make it into the WCF in the past playoffs, but it wasn't without its struggles and Pelinka had to pull off several moves to save the season.

This summer things have been different as Pelinka and Ham decided to keep the team's core and built from there, One of the important pieces they re-signed to bring back is D'Angelo Russell but he hasn't locked his spot for the season.

Recently, Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report listed the top NBA players to be traded this season, and Russell made the list. “D'Angelo Russell is a solid outside shooter and pick-and-roll playmaker, but he may not be the championship-level defender the Los Angeles Lakers need to contend, and the contract he signed looks suspiciously like a trade chip.”

Ham will give him another opportunity to D'Angelo Russell

After what Russell showed in the last postseason, specifically his awful performances vs. the Nuggets, coach Ham isn't entirely convinced of keeping the PG for the full season. LA is going to rely on him to learn from his postseason struggles and improve this year. If he can do that, the team will become that much more lethal. But if his inconsistency shows once again, the team will likely move on.
