After a career in a particular sport, some athletes decide to try new things. One former Lakers guard tried that, but the results weren't what he was hoping for in his boxing debut. Still, he enjoyed the fight and wants to repeat it.
Nick Young's life after the NBA had been in the headlines lately, not because of his career as a basketball player, but because he was ready for his first boxing fight. In the leadup to the battle, Young wanted his former Lakers teammate D'Angelo Russell to become his opponent.
But Russell isn't fighting him, at least not yet. Instead, Young fought against Tik Tok star Malcolm Minikon, the last-moment replacement for rapper Blueface who dropped out of the fight after not receiving a boxing license.
The fight didn't last long as Young received a hit with a forearm or elbow from Minikon in the fourth round. Nick fell through the ropes, and the fight ended. It was a technical KO, but it ended things. Young thinks it was an illegal hit and considers he was winning. Even after "losing," he wants to continue his boxing career.
The 37 years old shooting guard had a promising NBA career and even won a championship with the Golden State Warriors. Young played with the Lakers from 2013 to 2017. In 2013, Young converted a Lakers-record seven four-point plays while averaging a career-high 17.9 PPG. In 2017 Young became a free agent and moved to the Golden State Warriors.
