Once the Lakers Nation heard the name of Jalen Hood-Schifino as the Los Angeles selection with their No. 17 overall pick were left scratching their heads and kind of disappointed.
This was due to Cam Whitmore being available and the fans thought it was the better player, but they decided to trust the Lakers selection, as the scouting department has been on point in the last few years, one of the most recent and biggest examples is Austin Reaves.
Jalen Hood-Schifino will probably have few opportunities in his first NBA year, just like what happened to Max Christie in the last campaign. Jalen also has a lot of more competition as the Lakers roster is packed with depth and talent, still, he has a rough path to cross.
Hood-Schifino has to demonstrate he was the right call by GM Rob Pelinka and could bring great things to the team's future, as the organization has stated they want Jalen and Austin Reaves to be the future backcourt of the franchise.
The playmaking by JHS is on point, but the Summer League shows the guard has a lot of room to improve, especially with his shooting. Jalen is young and has a lot of future according to people inside the organization.
