LeBron James has just signed an extension that will make him the highest-earning player in NBA history. The All-star player signed a two-year deal worth up to $97.1 million and will help LeBron surpass Kevin Durant's $498.69 million earnings by 30 million. Now the Lakers can concentrate only on the trade between Russell Westbrook and Kyrie Irving, looking to upgrade their roster before the start of the season on October 18th.

Now the deal is finally done between the Lakers and LeBron James, ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith declared that the Los Angeles front office, especially their owner Jeanie Buss, has only one thing in mind when it comes to the four-time NBA Champion and it's something simple. Buss' priority for LeBron is to keep him happy. This includes giving him a 90 plus contract or to sign another player to the team.

The First Take host commented, “Speaking of Jeanie Buss, she never hesitates to do what LeBron James is going to want her to do… She personally told me months ago: her number one priority is for LeBron James to be happy. … Her number one priority was making sure to put a smile on his face because she know it’s entwined with winning. If he ain’t winning, he ain’t gonna be happy. That’s her priority — to make him happy.”

The analyst also commented that the reason that Jeanie Buss wants LeBron to be happy is because that's the best way for the team to win. If the ‘King’ is uncomfortable, it is because they are losing. “He doesn't take losing lightly”, Smith added.  “Winning matters to him a great deal”, finished Stephen A. Smith in response to the Lakers' last season debacle, finishing 33-49 and missing the Playoffs for second time in LeBron's tenure with the Lakers.

Are the Lakers going to be different this season?

There's a different aura on the Lakers right now. Signing LeBron James was a must before the start of the season. He was by far the best player last season, leading the team in scoring and finishing in the top three in the most important categories like rebounds, assists and blocks. However, the team is still not competitive enough to reach the playoffs. The Lakers still have things to address before the start of the season, but they are heading in the right direction.
