Sports documentaries are starting to appear on all streaming services. Since Michael Jordan's ‘Last Dance’ premiered, many have tried to copy their success as it reportedly paid off, giving Jordan between 3 and 4 million. So far, the Lakers have had their own two series, the last one premiering on August 15th. Now LeBron and D-Wade are going to be executive producers on a new Netflix documentary called The Redeem Team.

The new film will share the story of the 2008 U.S. Olympic basketball team that won the gold medal in Beijing in 2008. As the title of the documentary implies, it's all about how this team wanted to bring the former glory that the ‘Dream Team’ created in the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. US teams continued with the success of everyone except for the 2004 team, as they not only did not win the Gold medal, but they dropped all the way to Bronze.

The documentary will be directed by Jon Weinbach, the same director of 'Last Dance'.  He commented “What makes [the Redeem Team] significant is that, unlike every American basketball team, these guys have lost not once, not twice, but three times... The bloom was off the rose with USA basketball,” explained the director about the reasons why they decided to create this new documentary.

Finally, Jon Weinbach explained in a deeper level that the documentary is not only about basketball. “I wanted to remind people why it was a redemption… What does it mean? It wasn’t just that they needed to win a gold medal…I felt that the guys really wanted to talk about this… (it) showed that they wanted to honor the memory of the team and the significance of it. ” After all, the team managed to restore US glory in the sport that they are not allowed to lose at.

Reactions towards the documentary.

Some players have already come out and expressed their feelings towards the release of the new documentary. LeBron James is one of them as he will be part of this production. On his Twitter account he published "Yessir!!! Going to be a SPECIAL 1!!!". Kevin Durant also gave some input by tweeting “Needed it yesterday. Can’t wait to lock in.”
