One of the biggest highlights of this summer for the LA Lakers was the extension signing of one of their biggest stars in the roster to guarantee his continuity to 2028.

It's a gamble the GM Rob Pelinka and the Lakers are making for the team's future, extending Anthony Davis who is set to be the face of the franchise once LeBron James retire.

This time, AD spoke about the time he just became a Laker, in 2019, as he said that his first few weeks as a purple and gold were unusual in the sense that he got a lot of calls from the GM. He was almost like an assistant general manager to Pelinka, as the front office man rang the All-Star several times amid the Lakers’ free agency hunt. It was a bit irritating for Davis, but he understood where Pelinka was coming from.

"We were doing constant calls about, ‘What do you think of this or this player? Rob was almost like a stalking girlfriend," Davis said, per ESPN. "He was an agent, so he’s played both sides. He knows that for stuff to work the players have to be involved. And he tried to make sure that LeBron and I were involved as much as possible. During free agency, for every decision I got a text or a call, even just two minutes, ‘Look, this is going on. … How do you feel? OK, cool.’"

Anthony Davis' involvement in the team's roster decisions

"Every single decision. I [have] never been involved so much," Davis continued. "No matter who the player was, he wanted to make sure. It was on everything. And it was like, ‘Wow.’ To the point where I was like, ‘All right, Rob, stop calling me.’"
