The LA Lakers probably had the best offseason of all NBA franchises, and GM Rob Pelinka was able to build a strong roster for the next season by keeping the core of the previous campaign, the team that made it to the WCF.

Two of their top priorities were Rui Hachimura and Austin Reaves, both players were re-signed with lucrative contracts without overpaying them, but Pelinka's intelligence went beyond just signing them.

Even when the Lakers don't plan to trade them, they have made sure, the players don't get 'seduced' by other teams, as both Reaves and Hachimura cannot be moved until January 15 due to the details within the contract they signed.

"There’s also a small subset of free agent signees whose trade ineligibility lasts for an extra month. These players all meet a specific set of criteria: Not only did they re-sign with their previous team this offseason, but they got a raise of at least 20%, their salary is worth more than the minimum, and their team was over the cap, using Bird or Early Bird rights to sign them." Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura have been busy this offseason

The two players have been preparing for the next campaign in different ways. Austin Reaves will be playing another tournament, with Team USA in the upcoming FIBA World Cup, while Rui Hachimura renounced to represent Japan in that competition to work out with Lakers assistant coach Phil Handy. Hachimura and Reaves haven't stopped and will be ready in top shape to contend for the championship title.
