One of the last tasks pending for the Lakers ahead of training camp before the regular season starts is to sign a new center to have Anthony Davis' backup.

The top option has been Christian Wood according to reports by NBA insiders like Jovan Buha, Eric Pincus, and more. But the big has revealed he wants a bigger role with the Heat.

Still, the Lakers do want to sign the size center and according to Pincus, "The Lakers can only offer Wood the minimum at 2.7 million (probably with a player option added on for $3 million for 2024-25). And they have communicated interest, per multiple sources."

Pelinka wants Wood for the vet min, which could be the reason, along with not having a starting role with Anthony Davis and Jaxson Hayes on the roster for the center of not signing with LA.

The Lakers have other options to sign a center

The LA Lakers have as a second option Bismack Biyombo in case Wood doesn't sign with them. Colin Castleton could also become an upgrade to the 14th spot with a standard contract. And the last two options remain to be the free agents, Wenyen Gabriel and Tristan Thompson, according to Jovan Buha.
