The Lakers are still trying to upgrade the roster before the start of the season. Despite some comments by the Lakers front office and the head coach that they are comfortable rolling with the roster they currently have. They might try to trade Russell Westbrook if that gives them a better chance to compete in the West.
There were some rumors that the Lakers would try to trade for Kevin Love as he has a $28.9 million expiring contract and it seemed more likely than not that he would eventually be bought out. Now, however, after the Cavaliers traded for Donovan Mitchell, it seems the team is ready to win now, and Love can help them to do so.

On paper, it made sense that the Purple and Gold would try either to trade for Love or sign him if he was bought out. First, you would be reuniting him with LeBron James. It was with the ‘King’ by his side where he found the most success earning three all-star selections. The move would have also meant adding depth for LA as well.
Kevin Love averaged 13.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 74 games last season. He might no longer be on his primer, but he was a serviceable player coming out of the bench. The most important is that he played in 74 games, which would've helped the team as their best players can't stay healthy.
The Lakers have tried to upgrade their roster during this off-season. Despite missing out on Kyrie Irving and Donovan Mitchell the Lakers added Patrick Beverley, Lonnie Walker IV, and Juan Toscano-Anderson. They might not be the greatest player but will be role players helping LeBron and AD.
