When the Cavaliers picked LeBron James in the NBA draft, he wore the number 23 with Cleveland, the same one he used in high school, but that changed when he moved to the Miami Heat.

With Miami having retired the number 23 in honor of Michael Jordan, LeBron changed to using the No. 6 and returned to using 23 on his Cleveland jersey.

After winning a championship with the Cavs and signing with the Lakers, there was much speculation as to whether or not James would continue to wear the number 23. However, after three seasons of wearing number 23 with the Lakers, James switched to number 6.

LeBron explained why he chose the No. 6 with the Lakers

“It’s always been a part of me, to be honest. Six has a lot of meaning to me, from my family and numbers and things of that nature to what I believe in and things of that sort, but my mind doesn’t change.” Said LeBron James
