One of the most legendary teams in NBA history is the “Showtime” Lakers. They not only changed the game with a different style and entertainment injected by then-new owner Jerry Buss but also because they won five championships in that era.
Jerry Buss had a vision for the NBA, and after acquiring the Los Angeles Lakers franchise, he immediately signed the soon-to-become superstar Earvin “Magic” Johnson. But Johnson wasn´t the only great player on the roster; another great was Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Both players are considered not only Lakers icons but also two of the greatest players of all time in the sport, a lot of times being inside the top ten. But there are some behind-the-scenes that may not be that known.
And that is that Kareem Abdul-Jabbas told Magic he celebrated hard their first win together: “What happened was I made the winning shot, and it was like he had just won a championship. He was going crazy, wrestling me down and hugging me and everything. When we got in the locker room, I said: Look, we´ve got 81 more games to play.”
The first season of the showtime Lakers era marked a winning run; after they went to win it all, Magic impressed everyone. Kareem and Magic learned from each other and helped create one of the greatest teams in the history of the NBA.
