While the Lakers Rob Pelinka made most of the offseason moves in the first couple of days of the free agency market, the GM took his time in their pursuit of a big man to complete their roster for the 2023-24 season.

Yesterday it was reported by ESPN that the Lakers and Christian Wood had reached an agreement, but today the LA Lakers have made it official, the center is the newest player of the franchise ahead of training camp, and a new season as the 15th spot will be saved for later.

The signing of Wood took a long time to materialize as NBA insider Jovan Buha reported that the former Mavs big man wanted a bigger role and he understood that LA may not be that option for him, but conversations with coach Ham changed his mind.

But while Wood is a starting-caliber center, a report indicates the early expectation is that he will come off the bench for the Lakers. Rui Hachimura is likely to start in the frontcourt alongside Anthony Davis and LeBron James.

Christian Wood's role with LA has been revealed

“The early expectation is that Wood will come off the bench with Rui Hachimura the likely frontcourt starter next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis, according to team sources,” Jovan Buha wrote. “At a minimum, Wood will be the primary backup center behind Davis while occasionally teaming with him in two-big lineups. He should average around 20 minutes per game when everyone is healthy.”
