The Lakers have tried to upgrade their roster as they had a terrible season last year.  Now the team has made some moves but nothing outside of this world. There are some players that come back from last season that hasn't had the recognition that they should. One clear example is Austin Reaves.

After going undrafted in the 2021 NBA draft, Reaves signed a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers on August 3, 2021, that helped him to play a couple of games with the G-League team of the South Bay Lakers. Then he signed a standard contract to play with the Lakers, which he didn't disappoint. Now he'll be asking for a long-term deal at the end of next season.

Austin Reaves averaged 7.3 points and 3.2 rebounds in 61 regular-season games last season. He proved to be one of the Lakers' better defenders on a team that was desperate for any help on that end of the floor in its backcourt. He is currently signed to a minimum contract of a $1.6 million non-guaranteed deal for this season.

According to Michael Scotto, Reaves will be looking to stay and looking for another contract. “From everything I’ve gathered, he’d obviously like to stay in LA and get a pay raise, and the Lakers would like to keep him,” he explained on his HoopsHype podcast.

Players that can shine this season

With the lack of movement, the Lakers didn't do during the offseason, there's a chance for a couple of players to shine. Scottie Pippen jr and Jose Toscano-Anders should take the chance to show that they can be starters in the NBA.
