Last year, when it was time to enter training camp, the Lakers fans were disappointed with the moves made by GM Rob Pelinka in the offseason, as there was a promise of a blockbuster trade that never came the "biggest" move made was the signing of Point Guard Patrick Beverley.

If the 2022 off-season signings are compared to the current ones, the upgrade is abysmal. Kendrick Nunn averaged 6.7 PPG, 40.6% FT, 32.5% 3-Pts, 1.4 rebounds, 0.9 assists, and 0.3 steals against Hachimura's 9.6 PPG, 48.5% FT, 29.6% 3-Pts, 4.7 rebounds, 0.7 assists and 0.2 steals.

Also, while last year the Lakers had Malik Beasley, Russell Westbrook, Troy Brown Jr., Wenyen Gabriel, Lonnie Walker, and Tristan Thompson, Pelinka has now signed Gabe Vincent, D'Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt, Taurean Prince, Christian Wood, Cam Reddish and Jaxson Hayes instead.

Compared to how things started in training camp last season with speculation about Russell Westbrook and mostly problems, now the fans and the organization are happy with what was accomplished, all of this without risking their cap space.

NBA insider has Christian Wood's role revealed

One of the things that prevented Wood from signing earlier with LA was his role with the team, now the NBA insider Jovan Buha has reported that Christian will be Davis' primary backup center. “The early expectation is that Wood will come off the bench with Rui Hachimura the likely frontcourt starter next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis, according to team sources,” Jovan Buha wrote. “At a minimum, Wood will be the primary backup center behind Davis while occasionally teaming with him in two big lineups. He should average around 20 minutes per game when everyone is healthy.”
