Even when we are still at the LeBron James & Anthony Davis era at the LA Lakers, GM Rob Pelinka's plans of making Davis the face of the franchise once LeBron retires have started, as earlier in the offseason, the star signed a three-year 186 million extension.
Anthony Davis has been playing in the last two seasons at the center positions, unlike his regular Power Forward role he had in the 2020 championship title, and the four roles he is more comfortable with.
Darvin Ham has used him as a center, but now AD, taking the lead of the team has asked the front office to have more help at center, as he doesn't want to play too much in that position in the regular season. Now coach Ham will have to change his strategy and get use of his center's Christian Wood, Jaxson Hayes, and even the rookie Colin Castleton.
With information via ESPN's Dave McMenamin: "Sources told ESPN that Davis made it clear to the organization he wanted to have more support at the center so he wouldn’t have to play so much 5 during the regular season."
the Wood and Hayes signings could signal a chance for Davis to play more minutes at a position he potentially feels more comfortable in. Despite that though, the expectation is still that Davis will start games at center, although that could still change.
