The Los Angeles Lakers are still "actively" looking to get the best option available for their 14th and final spot ahead of the 2023-24 season that is quickly approaching.
LA's GM Rob Pelinka and head coach Darvin Ham had planned to start training camp with a full roster to continue developing chemistry and a winning culture after they made it to the Western Conference Finals in the previous campaign.
With Pelinka and Ham looking to add another center, and the two top options being Christian Wood and Bismack Biyombo, but no development has happened, the front office could bring back last season's center Wenyen Gabriel.
In an attempt to look for other centers that aren't available in the free market, Pelinka could be bringing back Wenyen Gabriel for a sign & trade, preparing a trading package to finally get a center that can fill the role that coach Ham is looking in his potential new big man.
Gabriel became a free agent this summer, and (on August 20) he is still available to be signed by any team in the league. Since Gabriel was a solid role player for the Lakers, it's surprising that he has not been picked up by anyone yet. Coming out of Kentucky, he was an intriguing prospect because he was one of the best players on a team that had reached the Elite 8 and Sweet 16.
