In the NBA world, it is common for former players to talk about other retired and active players, some time to praise and other times to criticize. But, this time, one of the best NBA players of all time and often considered the GOAT, Michael Jordan, spoke to Lakers former player J.R. Smith and told him a hard truth.

At a recent golf match, Smith had the time to talk with no other than Michael Jordan. But to his surprise, MJ had harsh words for him. J.R. Smith won in 2020 with the Lakers and, alongside former Cavaliers teammate Lebron James the Championship, later retired and joined the Aggies golf team for the North Carolina A&T State University.

The underappreciated showtime Laker player with an ugly shot

It didn't matter for Jordan that Smith won two championships in his NBA career, as the GOAT told J.R. that he had a good career as a professional basketball player, just not a great one. Harsh words to say to a former player, but coming from MJ, there's nothing to argue, and J.R. Smith just accepted the comments.

Of course, this statement from Michael Jordan has set social media on fire, with NBA and Lakers fans defending the former Lakers Champion and even criticizing Michael Jordan as an overhyped and overrated player. But the majority has reacted to support MJ's comments, as he is often considered the greatest player in the history of the NBA.

So even with the hurting words of MJ, Smith has moved on and has accepted what he accomplished in the NBA, and he was able to retire from basketball as a champion with the Lakers alongside another of the greatest: LeBron James.
