Russell Westbrook had one of his worst seasons last year despite him being brought to the Lakers as the missing piece to reach the NBA Finals once again. Of course, that didn't happen. Now, Jeanie Buss came out to defend the former MVP calling him the best player on the Lakers last season.
NBA analyst Nick Wright disagrees with the comments made by the Lakers owner as he believes that not only was Westbrook bad last year but there's no doubt that LeBron James was the best player on the team's roster last season despite missing a bunch of games due to injury.
The Los Angeles Lakers have a big plan for next summer
The worst case scenario for LeBron James and the Lakers
“LeBron was sensational last year. LeBron was 30, 8, and 6, on better than 50% from the field. He missed 20 games, he missed a quarter of the season, that's a problem and that's why LeBron wasn't the best forward. But if LeBron had put up these numbers and played 75 games, he would have been the second best forward in the league behind Giannis,” commented Nick Wright.
In the end, Russell Westbrook didn't have terrible numbers last year as he averaged, 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.1 assists. The only problem with Westbrook is that he wasn't at the MVP level he had shown in previous years, and the team ended up missing the playoffs for the second time in the last four years.
Russell Westbrook has shown that he can be a very good player. He has averaged 22.8 points, 8.4 assists, and 7.4 rebounds during his career. He has had bad seasons but he has always bounced back the following year.
