LeBron James just signed a two-year extension with the Los Angeles Lakers despite having one year more on his contract. Now James is going to stay with the Lakers until he is 40 years old. This was a must-do move for the Lakers as LeBron James is by far their best player. That's why Jeanie Buss believes this deal is a step forward.

“We have a new coach, and I'm excited to see what he brings and I want to give him all the time and resources that he needs to build a successful program. And I'll stay cautiously optimistic, but it is a big vote of confidence when LeBron James signs a two-year extension, when he had many months to do so,” explained the Lakers owner.

Jeanie Buss believed "changes needed to be made" for next season

LeBron James just appeared on the Sports Illustrated cover alongside his two sons, Bronny and Bryce, as the two teenagers were called the ‘Chosen Sons’. LeBron explained that he wanted to play with both of his sons in the NBA before he retires. That would make him at least 41 years old, when Bryce, the youngest of the two, will be eligible for the draft.

The Lakers will have the ‘King’ for two more years, three if the players choose to. But according to Jeanie Buss, they want him to retire as a Laker. "And you know, it was a priority for us. It's a priority for the Laker brand that he retire a Laker. We'll probably enjoy watching him as he approaches becoming the all-time leading scorer in history."

LeBron James future

LeBron James just decided to stay until 2024 with the Lakers. However, he might leave the team as there's no certainty that the Lakers can land either of his sons. He might leave for the team that draft Bronny.
