The Lakers have been trying to make a couple of moves during this off-season, so far, they just added an all-NBA defensive player in Patrick Beverley. Despite this being an important move to upgrade the roster, the team has missed out on Kyrie Irving. And now the team also missed on Donovan Mitchell as he was traded to the Cavaliers.

Cleveland traded Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen, Ochai Agbaji, three unprotected first-round picks (2025, 2027, and 2029), and two picks swaps (2026 and 2028) for Mitchell, according to  ESPN's insider Adrian Wojnarowski.

The worst case scenario for LeBron James and the Lakers

Despite not being teammates LeBron James showed his reaction to the trade of Donovan Mitchell to his former team. LeBron spent his first seven years in the NBA with the Cavs. He then returned in 2014 for a second tenure where he managed to win the only championship in the team's history.

LeBron James became the best player in Cleveland's history almost as soon as he joined the team. The Cavs have not reached the playoffs since James' second departure in 2018. The franchise has not made the playoffs without James on its roster since the 1997-98 season.

Will LeBron James return to Cleveland?

LeBron James just signed a two-year extension with the Los Angeles Lakers which makes him stay with the team until at least 2024. There's a chance he return to retire in Cleveland.
