The Lakers hired a new head coach for the upcoming season after letting go Frank Vogel after four years with the team. Darvin Ham will take the position for the upcoming years after a couple of years as an assistant coach in Milwaukee and Atlanta. Now former Lakers player, Byron Scott gave some compliments to the new coach during a Bovada Sports segment.

Darvin Ham not only has experience as an assistant coach, he was also an NBA player. He played professional basketball for eleven years with a couple of stops, for NBA teams such as Denver, Indiana, Milwaukee, Atlanta and Detroit. He retired in 2008. In the same year, he became an assistant coach.

LeBron James' big vote of confidence for the Lakers

“You know what? The only thing that I know about Darvin is that he’s a hard-nosed tough kid. I played against him way back in the day; I coached against him when he was one of the assistant coaches, you know? So I know that he’s a workaholic, he’s a hard-working kid; he’s tough, he’s defensive-minded -- which this team DEFINITELY has to get back to, but I love the acquisition of picking Darvin Ham as head coach and I just wish the best for him,” explained Scott.

The Lakers right now don't have the roster to compete for the championship. Still, with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the team has the possibility to compete against the top teams in the West conference. If the Lakers have a long run this season, that would say a lot about Darvin Ham as a coach.

Darvin Ham as a coach

As said above, Ham has been a coach since 2008. He began his career with the Albuquerque Thunderbirds. He then moved to the Lakers, the Hawks and finally the Bucks, where he found success by winning the championship.
