In sports there are great rivalries; the Yankees vs. the Boston Red Sox, Real Madrid vs. Barcelona, Rafael Nadal vs. Roger Federer, the Dallas Cowboys vs. the San Francisco 49ers and of course the Los Angeles Lakers against the Boston Celtics. A rivalry that was born in the sixties when the Boston Celtics won several finals against Jerry West and Elgin Baylor's Los Angeles Lakers. Today, this rivalry is one of the greatest in the world. Both teams have 17 championships. The question here is who will win the 18th championship first.

After winning the 2019-2020 finals over the Miami Heat, the Los Angeles Lakers tied the Boston Celtics for the most championships. However last season while the Lakers had a very bad season the Boston Celtics made it to the finals against the Golden State Warriors. To our good fortune, the team led by Stephen Curry won the Finals in six games with Curry as the MVP.

WWE superstar sends a message to LeBron James about his future.

The big danger for the Lakers if they sign Kyrie Irving.

The current owner of the Los Angeles Lakers stated that her goal is to pass the Boston Celtics in championships and make the Los Angeles Lakers the most winning team in the NBA; "When he started, he wanted to take on the Boston Celtics and achieve all the wins they had achieved," said Jeanie Buss speaking about her father Dr. Jerry Buss. "Now, with ring No. 17, we're tied with the Celtics in terms of championships. That's what he set out to do. And certainly, the job is not done yet. We have to continue that quest, and we'll get there."

The point here is that even though the Los Angeles Lakers have the great LeBron James, the Boston Celtics have, according to the experts, a more complete team with greater projection for the future. With players like Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, the Boston Celtics hope to retake the title of the NBA's most successful team. If the Lakers want to stop this and be the ones to win their 18th championship sooner, they will have to show a very different face in the next few years, because two years after the last Lakers championship, the team has underperformed.

Last 4 decades

Despite having lost 6 finals to the Celtics in the sixties (and one more as the Minneapolis Lakers), in the last 4 decades, the most winning team is the Los Angeles Lakers because while the Celtics have won 4 championships since the arrival of Magic Johnson to date, the Lakers have won 11 championships. Without a doubt, this rivalry is worthy of the history books. Let's hope that the gold and purple will be the first to get that 18th championship.
