Byron Scott is one of the well known Lakers players in history. As a 3-time NBA Champion, he knows what talent can look like. Scott played with the likes of Kareem and Magic and played against players like Shaq and Michael Jordan. Now he has moved his talent to the podcast world, where he created his own show. During an episode, he decided to praise one of the top players in today's NBA in Luka Doncic, by comparing him to an all-time great like Larry Bird.
During the episode, the former Laker player argues that both players looked very slow while playing, but he argues that that is/was what makes both of the players special. “You look at Bird and say, ‘Man, I could’ve stopped him because he’s slow’. Someone like Luka now. If you watch Luka, Luka is so freaking slow and you’re like, ‘Why can’t they stop that?’ When you’re crafty and you know how to play, that’s all you need.”

Luka Doncic has been a dominant player since he entered the league 4 seasons ago. A clear example is the Rookie of the Year award he won. During his time as a Dallas Mavericks, he has averaged 26.4 points, 8.5 rebounds and 8.0 assists in 264 regular-season games. These numbers have helped him to be selected to play in 3 All-Star games. Maybe the playstyle is not the same as Bird's but they can be compared.
Byron Scott ended up being a very good player in the NBA. He played in 14 seasons for the Lakers, Pacers and Grizzlies. During his time in the league, he averaged 14.1 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 1,073 regular-season games. He won 3 NBA championships, all of them with the Los Angeles Lakers. Now, as a podcaster, he has one of the most famous podcasts led by former NBA players.
Larry Bird averaged 24.3 points, 10.0 rebounds and 6.3 assists in 897 regular-season games. Doncic had more points and more assists but fewer rebounds. Obviously, team wise, he is far behind, but it seems he's going on the right path.
