By James Brown
A year ago the Lakers looked like the best team on the NBA, at least on paper they did. They had just sign former MVP Russell Westbrook, and still have NBA champion and All-Star Anthony Davis, and the best player of his generation LeBron James. They also had complementary pieces like Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard. However as we all know, they fell short and missed the playoffs. Now they haven't address their issues and are heading to what looks like another bad season.
As the Lakers await an answer from the Brooklyn Nets regarding the offer for Kyrie Irving, NBA analyst, Cuffs The Legend, urges the team to go and sign back Carmelo Anthony, who still a free agent, tweeting, “Lakers should bring Melo back once all the dust settles”. Anthony played for the Laker Last season, and although he is far from his prime, he was a serviceable player appearing in 69 games with an average of 13.3 points scored, 4.2 rebounds and 1.0 assists.
This is the 3-way trade that no one is talking about
Grading the Los Angeles Lakers offseason moves so far
Regarding his last season with the Lakers Anthony said, “I can say I’ve experienced it.. I can finally check the box, played with Bron. Played with AD... we were phenomenal on paper. Me, personally, I had a good year, personally. Just as far as happiness and being able to go out there and compete and being able to do my part, play my part on this team. There were good days, there were bad days, but we got through it, and I got through it.”
The future Hall of Famer won't be the Lakers solution to make the playoffs, he wasn't last season, and won't be it this upcoming one, but Anthony was the highest graded defender in the team with 114.0 rate while also shooting 44.1% from the floor, 37.5% from beyond the arc and 83.0% from the free-throw line. The Carmelo Anthony signing won't be anything but consistency and experience. Right now the team has sign some young talent but will need some experience to help the team compete for a spot in the next round.
During their championship ron in the 2019-20 season the Lakers had a top-3 defense and was probably the reason why the ended up winning the title that season. Last year they have a bottom 10 defense (and bottom 10-offense for that matter), so they should look to improve their defensive play, as they know that both Davis and Lebron can but the ball in the hoop.
