The Brooklyn Nets and Kevin Durant agreed to move forward together despite all the rumors that had Durant leaving the team. This created that most of the trade rumors, including other players, started to dissipate. For the Lakers, the decision means they can't no longer trade for Kyrie Irving, the only player for whom they've made an offer this offseason. Now, new rumors put the Lakers as one of the teams interested in Donovan Mitchell.

Donovan Mitchell has played 5 seasons for the Jazz. He has averaged 23.9 points, 4.5 assists and 4.2 rebounds in 345 regular-season games. These stats have helped him to be selected to play in 3 All-Star games. Last season he had the best season of his career as he averaged 26.4 points, 5.2 assists, and 4.4 rebounds. Now he is one of the most solicited players in the whole league as around five or six teams want to trade for him.

According to John Gambadoro, the Lakers and the Nets are two teams interested in Mitchell. “Couple things on Donovan Mitchell. The Hawks, Heat & Kings are NOT interested contrary to reports. Knicks still have the best package to offer but other teams interested are Cleveland, Washington, Charlotte, LA Lakers & Brooklyn. And no, the Jazz never asked for 7 1st round picks!” commented the NBA analyst via his Twitter account.

The Lakers have been really quiet during this offseason. Their biggest move was to extend their best player in LeBron James. However, they tried to give their future for Kyrie Irving and it didn't pay off. Now they are in a bad situation as their roster is below average, and besides Anthony Davis, there's no player that really can put the team on their shoulders if either of the two players gets injured at some point during the season.

3 top players linked to the Lakers

There have been many rumours linking the Lakers to diverse players. However, so far Rob Pelinka has not made a statement that he's trying to land any player. Some of the most interesting players that have been linked to the Purples and Gold are Zach Lavine from the Chicago Bulls, Klay Thompson from the Golden State Warriors and now Donovan Mitchell from the Utah Jazz.
