The Los Angeles Lakers tried everything to bring Kyrie Irving during the offseason. The Purple and Gold offered Russell Westbrook and two first-round picks in exchange for the all-star players. In the end, Kevin Durant announce that he was going to stay with the Brooklyn Nest, which meant that the Bronx team wasn't going to trade Irving.

Now, the Lakers have to upgrade their team elsewhere. So far, they have added Patrick Beverley after a trade with the Utah Jazz. The addition of Beverley will help the team as he is an all-NBA defensive player and the Lakers had a bottom ten team in defensive efficiency. Still, the team is not good enough to compete for the championship.

Some reports still link some players to the Lakers. But it seems that the team might be already thinking about the next year's offseason. According to Michael Scotto on Late Night Lakers, there's a ‘belief’ around NBA that the Lakers are trying to maximize cap space for next summer, to pursue Kyrie Irving.

Despite what happened with Russell Westbrook this season the Lakers are still going to free up cap space as the $47 million due to Westbrook it's only for this year. The team also traded Talen Horton-Tucker who was owed $10 million.

The Lakers' new focus

It's hard to see that the Lakers might be already thinking about the next summer offseason, but might be a reason why they aren't making many moves as of right now. The Lakers have a below-average roster that might miss the season for the second year in a row.
