So far the Los Angeles Lakers have done an incredible average job during the offseason, true, they're still in the hunt for Kyrie Irving but that's still an if. They have adquire many young talent to be paired with the experience of Westbrook (if he stays) Davis and, of course, LeBron James. According to Sports Illustrated’s Ben Stinar, the Lakers should consider trading for the 2017 first overall pick, point guard Markelle Fultz from the Orlando Magic.

“Fultz was drafted with the first overall pick because he has star potential. Right now, he is just a role player that could turn into a very good player one day.  (LeBron) James is 37 years old, so he is not going to be playing for another decade. Fultz could turn into a core player for them once this era is over. He would be the perfect mix of helping the team compete for titles right now, while also investing in the future of the franchise,” said Ben Stinar.

Los Angeles Lakers player looks ready to start the new season

Russell Westbrook was criticized by a former NFL running back

Markelle Fultz is still a very young talent as he is only 24 years old. The problem in acquiring him, is that Fultz has struggled to find consistent play in the NBA as a couple of injuries has limited his ability to develop at the next level. Fultz injury problem made him play for only 26 games in the two seasons following his debut. The lack of play make the 76ers trade him to the Orlando Magic where he found the level that make him a first pick overall.

Fultz played a lot of basketball on the 2020 season. In the 72 regular-season games in Orlando, Fultz averaged 12.1 points, 5.1 assists, and 3.3 rebounds. True, those aren't MVP numbers but the Lakers could definitely use a player that can help in the scoring side of the ball. Of course that would all depend on whether if Fultz can stay healthy, as he only played in eight games last season Fultz tore his ACL in his left knee in a non-contact injury on Jan. 6, 2021.

Are the Lakers doing enough to being competitive next season?

The Lakers have add young talent during this offseason, yet their still far away from being competitive next season. Everything can change if they can trade for Kyrie Irving, as the trio he can make with LeBron and Davis could definitely be top 3 in the NBA. however so far they still need to do some moves for one or two free agents.
