The Los Angeles Lakers might be the best team in NBA history. However, in the past couple of years, they have been pretty mediocre. True, they won the championship a few years ago but it came in a shortened season. Now with these bad seasons, they might be overshadowed by the other Los Angeles team, the Clippers.

The Clippers have never been the best team in Los Angeles as they have never won a championship. Still, in the last couple of years, they have had the Lakers' number. Right now, the Clippers have a 7-game streak over the Lakers. They also have won 32 games against their city rival since 2012-13, for only seven defeats.

According to Rod Thorn, a former NBA front office executive, who drafted Jordan with the Chicago Bulls, the Lakers must keep being relevant in the NBA if they want to keep being the top team in Los Angeles over the Clippers.

“It’s still a Laker town, but the Clippers may eclipse them as a team. They want to have a great team. That’s how they get to where they want to go. That’s how they maximize the money they can take in. That’s how they maximize their brand,” commented Thorn for the New York Times.

Lakers' relevance in the NBA

Last year the Lakers had a disastrous season as they ended with a 33-49 record missing the playoffs. Still, they top the lists on merchandise sales and LeBron James was the player with more jerseys sold.
