So far, the Lakers have tried to upgrade their roster to try to avoid another season disaster like last year when they finished with a 33-49 record, missing the playoffs for the second time in the last four years. The team's front office let go some of their veterans and replaced them with young talent. They also traded two players to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Patrick Beverley. However, this might not be enough.

The Lakers made an important move by trading for Beverley as he is an all-NBA defensive player. Last season, the Purple and Gold finished in the bottom ten in defensive efficiency, so they needed a player to upgrade that side of the ball. Now they just need to add one or two players that can help both LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the offense.

Jeanie Buss would never consider doing this with the Lakers

According to NBA insider Michael Scotto, the Lakers could have added some of the players they are currently trying to add. “The Pacers initially hoped to acquire Russell Westbrook, two first-round picks and Talen Horton-Tucker from the Lakers in return for Myles Turner, Buddy Hield and Daniel Theis.” explained in the reporter on a podcast.

This trade, of course, would have made the Lakers not able to trade for Beverley. But Myles Turner has led the league in blocks in the last couple of seasons. The trade would also have improved their offense as Buddy Hield has also the most three pointers in the last few years. Finally, the trade would have sent Russell Westbrook to another team, something that they have tried since the end of last season.

Can the Lakers improve the team?

The Lakers still don't need a good enough team to compete with the top teams in the West Conference. But a move for the Pacers duo or for Donovan Mitchell could make them ready to fight for a chance at the finals.
