The Lakers have tried to trade Russell Westbrook since the end of last season. They brought the former MVP because they thought he was the missing piece to compete for the championship. Needless to say, he was not what the Lakers were expecting. However, according to former Lakers champion Norm Nixon, Russell Westbrook can go back to being a top player.

During an interview for Clutchpoints, the former all-star player, gave Russell Westbrook some compliments and explained that the former MVP can definitely help the Lakers to be a competitive team once again, but it would be because of Darvin Ham's plan to utilize Westbrook.

‘Right now, Dennis Schröder is better than Russell Westbrook’

NBA analyst believes LeBron James doesn’t make the Lakers favorites

“Absolutely, it can work there. I think Darvin Ham will be able to figure it out. I mean, Russell still has a lot of talent. He’s not the Russell Westbrook he was at 22 [years old] and nobody is that after they’ve played a few years, but Russell has a lot left in his engine,” explained the former Lakers player.

Russell Westbrook didn't have a horrible season last year. True, it was his worst season since his second year in the league, but he still had decent numbers as he averaged 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 7.1 assists in 78 games. Still, those were not MVP numbers.

Can Russell Westbrook be his best version once again?

Russell Westbrook has averaged 22.8 points, 8.4 assists and 7.4 rebounds during his career. He, of course, was below that last year. Still, he has had his ups and downs during his career, so he can be back next season with good numbers.
