Russell Westbrook hasn't been the same player since he won the MVP back in 2017. Still, many believe that he can still be a top player in the NBA, but he will have to make a change to his game in order to do so. According to Kendrick Perkins, Russell Westbrook's goal should be to make the all-defensive team.
Most people believed that Russell Westbrook's time in Los Angeles was over, especially after the trade for Patrick Beverley, as he has had a beef with the former MVP for almost nine years. However, as days go by, and Westbrook is still on the team, it seems that the Lakers should start planning on the future with the guard on the roster.
The Lakers should trade Russell Westbrook for Donovan Mitchell
Patrick Beverley’s weakness that can affect the Lakers
According to former player Kendrick Perkins, Russell should look to improve his defensive game in the upcoming season. “Russell Westbrook is arguably the most athletic guard to ever play the game of basketball… and his goal this season should be to make an All-Defensive team for the 1st time in his career!" argued in a Tweet.
The NBA analyst also believes that Westbrook and Beverley can actually play together, despite all of the fights they have had in the past. Beverley is a defensive special, and Westbrook is no longer the offensive monster he once was. If the former MVP can become a defensive player, the Lakers might have a great defensive duo for the next season.
It seems that the Lakers are determined to trade Russell Westbrook. The team might get better if they managed to bring more than one player in a trade, but if they can't trade Russell, it seems almost impossible that he plays for the Purple and Gold next season.
