Bill Russell was one of the greatest NBA players in all history. Not only that but he also was an civil rights movement leader, and helped the inclusion in the United States of America. The news of his passing shocked everyone around the NBA. In honour of a great career, the League had decided to retire his No.6 from all teams, something that had never happened before. Teams are also going to honour the legend by featuring a green clover with No.6 on each court.

With the tribute to the late, great Bill Russell, even the Los Angeles Lakers will have a green No. 6 clover on their home court at Crypto.com Arena. Many people think this is a great sign of respect for the 11-time NBA champion, but Lakers expert, Mike Guardabascio, believes that the Lakers can't and shouldn't put a green clover on their home field, as the Boston Celtics are still their most hated rival in the league.

The pundit explains that he has nothing but respect for Russell but he doesn't want to see their rivals' logo under any circumstances. "They absolutely should put it on the Lakers court, but it should be in a black circle or something. You can not put a green f------ clover on the Lakers court for any reason for any person. If Jesus Christ himself appeared and said, 'I'll fix everything if you just put a green clover on the Lakers court', I can't do it.", he explained in the The Jenkins & Jonez Podcast.

Of course, Bill Russell will be remembered for being the biggest NBA champion in history as he won 11 NBA championships and five MVP awards. However, for Lakers fans, he might be remembered as the ultimate rival. If it wasn't for Russell, the Lakers would probably have 25 or more championships by now, as the Celtics defeated the Purples and Gold seven times, five as a player and two as a coach.

Will LeBron change his number in honour of Russell?

LeBron James will be one of the few players that will grandfather the No.6 from Bill Russell. The King just changed his number from 23 to 6 last season. It was the number he used while playing for the Miami Heat, but now that the league decided to retire the number for all teams, it might be time for the already known No.23.
