The Los Angeles Lakers brought Russell Westbrook last season because they thought that he was the missing piece the team needed to get back to the NBA Finals after a season where they were bounce out of the playoffs in the first round. Now the Lakers have been trying to trade the former MVP no matter what.
Despite all the trade rumors that have surrounded Russell Westbrook, it seems that the Purple and Gold are ready to roll with the all-star player. According to Dan Woike from Los Angeles Times, they "are comfortable" going into training camp with Westbrook. Both Darvin Ham and Jeanie Buss have expressed their compliments towards Russ, which might be an indication that he will play one season more in Los Angeles.
New comments to Russell Westbrook... ‘Just go home.’
The plan to utilize Russell Westbrook, which should have started last season
According to Woike, there are two candidates for a possible Westbrook trade, “Either the Lakers up their offers in pursuit of a trade centered on Myles Turner and Hield in Indiana or they turn their sights back to the Jazz to try and pick the bones of a former contender thrust into a rebuild.”
Right now, it seems that after Donovan Mitchell's trade to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the trade options for the Lakers have reduced to the two mentioned above. Still, it seems that the Lakers won't be trading Russell Westbrook before the start of the season.
According to Lakers owner, Jeanie Buss, Russell Westbrook was the best player for the Lakers last season. Despite having a bad season, his consistency was a big factor in the owner's compliments.
